Indie Arcade Wave is a set of social media pages I’ve been meaning to cover for a long time. There’s no better encapsulation of what I love—what I stand for—than their stuff on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook.

To briefly sum it up, Indie Arcade Wave highlights any and all developments to come out of the indie arcade scene, from one-off cabinets to full releases. There are some games I’d probably never have discovered if the pages didn’t exist.

Joe Wagner, the mastermind behind Indie Arcade Wave,...

The British Amusement Catering Trade Association (BACTA) recently decided to cancel 2021’s Entertainment, Attractions & Gaming (EAG) International Expo in light of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

“We came to the conclusion that this was the only sensible solution considering the continuing restrictions on travel and mingling in larger groups,” EAG chairman Martin Burlin said. “The high level of risk associated with putting on a show in the current climate meant that the directors could do not...

Onion Soup Interactive surprised dropped an unlisted teaser trailer for a Nippon Marathon 2 Kickstarter campaign September 10.

Before sharing the video publicly, community developer Amy Madin revealed the upcoming project via the UK-based indie studio’s official Discord server.

“Next week, we'll be posting this video publicly and sharing it with the world, but we wanted you all to see it first. In reality, one of the main reasons we've decided to make NM2 is because of you guys and your support th...

Despite having my own set of personal preferences, I always try my darnedest to expand my gaming horizons, seeking out genres and titles that I might not usually play in the hopes that I’ll come to enjoy them. One genre that I have plenty of experience with but still haven’t played nearly enough is the first-person shooter.

Although many gamers have come to deride first-person shooters—especially those of the military variety—due to their overwhelmingly ubiquitous nature, I don’t actu...

I’ve been waiting a long, long time to write this article—and for good reason. Since its announcement in 2019, my thoughts on Outnumbered have been somewhat mixed. Now, after much deliberation, I’m finally ready to take a measured approach to LAI’s latest.

Let’s start with the facts: Outnumbered is an on-rails “shooting gallery” of sorts, in which players blast as many targets as possible as accurately possible within a given stage’s time limit to earn the highest score. Think Sammy Sports Shooti...

IAAPA Expo 2020, the most prominent annual amusements industry trade show, has been canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

“IAAPA Expo serves as the global marketplace for the attractions industry. We recognize this year there are many challenges facing our members from around the world,” IAAPA president and CEO Hal McEvoy said. “Together with input from members, exhibitors, the IAAPA Board of Directors and our team, we have decided to cancel this year’s Expo due to the ongoing impacts of COVID-1...

My brother is a truly dedicated video game fan, his favorites including the Legend of Zelda series, the Kingdom Hearts series, Roblox, and Minecraft. Those of us who know him can personally attest to his propensity for sharing the finest of gaming facts.

With that in mind, I’d say it’s more than fitting that he recently started his very own gaming YouTube channel to share his passion with the world.

Two weeks ago, my brother unleashed Screenbright Gaming upon an unsuspecting gamer populace, foreve...

Among my many niche interests, my fondness for video game music is by far the most misunderstood.

Although more and more people are coming to accept the genre, I think it’s safe to say that most “normal” people still see listening to game soundtracks as a bit odd. Unless you get it, you just plain don’t get it.

That aforementioned “odd” factor is multiplied tenfold for arcade game music in particular. This is a side of gaming that’s already been ostracized by the general public. The music thumping...

Today’s news is something I’ve been sitting on for a while—and I’m so ready to spill the beans. If you didn’t gather the gist from the title, allow me to reiterate: I’m writing an arcade book, dudes and dudettes.

Tentatively titled The Magic of Arcades, this particular piece of writing is my attempt at expressing why we arcade gamers enjoy our medium of choice so dang much, despite the availability of arguably more convenient gaming options in the year 2020. Consider my book one big love letter t...

I’ve always been one of those degenerate freaks who loves watching the credits sequences accompanying any given piece of media.

In my eyes, there lies something truly special in seeing the names of crewmembers and listening to the awesome original music backing the scroll. Whether you like them or not, it’s hard to deny that credits provide some much needed closure after a great show, movie, or video game.

I’d be lying if I said I didn’t routinely stand at arcade machines for upwards of one minute...

I have an ever-growing mental list of video games I want to try before I die. On this list are titles that have been recommended and/or ones I’ve been eying for years. Up until a couple years ago, Dynasty Warriors was one of these games.

I first encountered the Dynasty Warriors series when my brother purchased spinoff Hyrule Warriors for the Wii U. After playing co-op with him a few times, I decided that I needed to try the series proper for myself. I simply had to spend more time wit...

In recent years, I’ve become pretty obsessed with the 3D platformer genre. There’s something I really love about running, jumping, and collecting in a three-dimensional space.

In making it my mission to play every 3D platformer on the Switch, I’ve had the amazing opportunity to experience the lesser-known Poi: Explorer Edition. Considering its obscurity, I can’t imagine the publisher’s decision to release the Switch version of Poi three days before Super Mario Odyssey was a very help...
