Galloping Ghost Productions' ambitious one-on-one fighter Dark Presence—which, might I remind you, is now over 10 years in the making—will be playable at this year’s Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo.

Yes, this is very big news.

In an Instagram post Wednesday, Galloping Ghost Arcade shared that they were performing “high end testing” on Dark Presence in preparation for the event, alongside a photo of the deluxe-style “M.A.C.K.” cabinet.

Known primarily for its use of highly fluid digitized actors...

Step Revolution’s hit dance game StepManiaX is confirmed to undergo a location test in the UK this spring, according to developer Kyle Ward.

The news first broke in a tweet from renowned UK arcade manager Toby Na Nakhorn, saying: “Toby dancegamering news. Stepmaniax arcade cab will be tested in London this Spring.”

The information was publicly verified shortly after when Ward quote-tweeted Na Nakhorn. “Excited for the UK to experience ‪#StepManiaX [Union Jack emoji],” he said. “@7Ten shhh it's sup...

Indie developer Three Flip studios recently released an “arcade reveal trailer” for their upcoming/already released blob warfare title Armed and Gelatinous—and yes, it’s precisely as ‘80s-themed as we could have possibly hoped.

(Although this news is now two weeks old, I wanted to write about it nonetheless. I’ve been pretty swamped with school and non-Wilcox Arcade work lately.)

In this corny romp of an advertisement, we’re treated to a brief look at the Armed and Gelatinous arcade cabinet—in all...

WARNING: Obvious satire.

In the three years since I started writing this blog, I repeatedly proclaimed to the world that I was adamantly against ticket redemption. I felt that these titles were shallow, brain-dead “kiddie gambling devices” built solely for the purpose of gobbling up money. And I firmly believed that anyone, anywhere, could run an arcade without redemption in today’s day and age.

Unfortunately, I was wrong.

You see, I’m very young, and I know nothing about the coin-op market. I’ve b...

In last Thursday’s “Raw Thrills Report”—the company’s quarterly email newsletter—the folks at Raw Thrills confirmed that Taito’s iconic Bust-A-Move franchise is making its return to arcades as Bust-A-Move Frenzy.

Further reporting by Arcade Heroes revealed that the game is, in fact, already in production.

As some of you may remember, we last saw Bust-A-Move Frenzy on location test at a Dave & Buster’s location in September 2019 (as it, strangely enough, was absent at IAAPA).

Reception to Bust-A-Mov...

Indie arcade title Galactic Battleground is set to undergo major changes rolling into 2020, receiving two new game modes and a new cabinet variant.

The first new mode, Warzone, is a competitive mode featuring “multi-objective victory” as a “twist” on the original Versus mode, according to a post on official Galactic Battleground social media pages.

The three victory paths in Warzone include collecting enough “red orbs” (working title) from Nebula Clouds to fill your team’s meter, pushing the “Whit...

The third title in my “exA-Arcadia Preview” series is pretty killer. Blazing Chrome, developed by JoyMasher and published by The Arcade Crew, is an awesome run-and-gun adventure drawing clear inspiration from both Contra and Metal Slug. These inspirations, as you’ll see, are a very good thing.

Blazing Chrome is set in a robot-controlled world where human lives are expendable. It’s up to you—the player, assuming the role of a resistance soldier—to infiltrate and AI power plant and take the corrupt...

Those of you who follow my blog should undoubtedly be aware of my unwavering support for the independent arcade game manufacturer. In an industry full of bland rail shooters and drivers from the same handful of companies over and over again, it’s a true breath of fresh air to see new talent emerge. Indie studios listen to the players, making the kind of “traditional” video game experiences we’ve been begging for for ages. Killer Queen, Cosmotrons, Tipsy Raccoons, and, yes, Skycurser...I love ‘em...

Arcade game manufacturer Andamiro recently announced their latest SpongeBob-themed whacker game—and it’s actually just their 2017 whacker game.

The “new” whacker, Krabby Patty Park, appears identical to previous whacker, Order Up, in literally all but name.

Now, I’m not saying Andamiro would have the gall to repackage a 3-year-old game and sell it back to you like it’s some kind of cutting edge product. What I’m really saying is that Andamiro has the gall to repackage a 3-year-old game and sell it...

Hello, good arcade gaming boys and girls of the internet, and welcome to my latest hodgepodge of headlines. Today, I have some excellent new to share regarding Exa-Arcadia launch title Aka & Blue and Rochester, Minnesota’s latest gaming destination. Shall we dive in?

Aka & Blue: Type-R is rolling out to arcades outside of Japan.

As we ride on the rollercoaster that is Exa-Arcadia’s eventual full release, we finally have more tangible information to keep our momentum going: Aka & Blue preorders are...

In September 2019, indie developer Coin Crew Games announced Battle Bowling, their second release following King of the Road.

Battle Bowling is simple but unique combination of bowling and racing. One to four players can jump in and commandeer their own bowling ball via trackball, rolling through speed bumps and jumps while avoiding obstacles. Whoever hits the pins at the end first is crowned victor.

The game outputs in 9:16 in an attractive and reasonably proportioned upright cabinet. The current...

Hoo-boy, am I bad at maintaining regular series on my blog.

Yes, boys and girls, it’s true: the fabled Arcade Hype List has finally returned after just under two years of hiatus. Thank goodness I, goofy arcade man Dustin Wilcox, have finally resumed rattling off the upcoming arcade games I’m eagerly anticipating. What would you do without me?

Probably lots of things. Bsut you sure as heck wouldn’t have this Arcade Hype...
