Good evening, arcade gamers. I, Dustin Wilcox, am sharing with you today what can best be described as a “human interest” piece—but one I so dearly needed to write.

You see, I’m a huge fan of the Namco-operated “Gameplay” game rooms installed in Walmart Supercenters across the United States. While the machines selection at these locations leans a bit heavily on cranes, they always have at least one video game I can enjoy.

The Murray, Kentucky Walmart lays claim to my favorite Gameplay so far, stoc...

June 29, 2020

Hello, dear readers of Wilcox Arcade. Have I told you how much you kind folks mean to me? Spoiler alert: Anyone who’s ever read my blog articles, played one of my route games, or even given me the simple pleasure of making their acquaintance means the world to me.

Today’s article is one I’ve meant to write for a long time, but I only just recently found it in me to do so. I want to be very clear with you all as to what you can expect from my blog going forward.

I’ve recently been feeling rather un...

Those of you invested in the “Wilcox Arcade lore” are likely aware that, every great once in a while, I’ll write up a “General Update”. A General Update is a glimpse at the “human” side of this blog: a briefing on my life as of the past few weeks.

Writing a General Update is a good way to keep in touch with you all, the readers, when I’m either too busy (or fatigued) to write “regular” articles or when there’s not much news to write of at all.

October 21, 2019

Though I try to make Wilcox Arcade as exclusively “by players, for players” as possible, there are times I like to discuss the business side of…well, the arcade business. This is one of those instances.

This October, to get into the frightening mood, I’m hosting my first full-scale event at the Main Street Tavern game room. The premise is simple: Get the highest score on The House of the Dead, share photo proof of that score with me on social media, and be in the running to win the House of the D...

June 18, 2018

Hey, everybody. Today’s article is kind of a throwaway one. The last time I posted a General Update, I entered a month-long hiatus. But don’t worry; this time will be different.

Unfortunately (or fortunately, considering my circumstances), I will be gone for five whole weeks this summer. After undergoing a grueling application process back in November, I was accepted into the Governor’s Scholar Program and will be spending my break on a college campus. I’ll be taking literature classes and maybe...

Today, I write to you not of how I would improve the arcade industry, but rather I tell a tale of woe. You see, I was 90 percent finished with the aforementioned article, and I was slowly coming to a starkly bleak realization. Me? Write a list of points on how arcade games could improve? It was positively preposterous in the face of my sheer lack of experience as anything beyond a player. Never have I been an operator; and certainly have I never been a developer. I was ill-equipped to make such...

May 1, 2017

Oh darn! The obsession train is coming to one heckuva stop! For the past three or so months, I've been single-mindedly obsessed with arcade games. It wasn't a phase (you can't tell me it was a phase), but it's definitely time for a change. I'm still going to write this blog every week and play all of the arcade games that I can, but I'm going to give my brain a break. It gets extremely tiresome to think about only one thing for three months.

So, I might as well tell you all what I've been up to l...

April 24, 2017

If you haven't noticed by the slowness of my social media pages, I've been very busy lately. School, being close to end of the end of the year, is starting to become much more demanding. And on top of that, it's becoming increasingly difficult to single-mindedly focus on arcade games. Like, my brain literally can't handle it anymore. So for these aforementioned reasons, posts may be a little thin until after I get out of school, and I may take an extended hiatus from social media in general. Luc...

March 20, 2017

To anyone who reads my blog or follows my social media accounts, it is a well-known fact that I’m a sweaty nerd who loves arcade games more than anything in the world. As such, I’ve spent the past few months of my life saving up for my first arcade game. And you know what happened?

            I finally got it.

However, there’s a bit more of a story to this purchase, as the search for my first game was an adventurous one....

February 28, 2017

This week has been incredible for me, with so much wonderful news in the arcade industry (well, maybe not that much), the beginning of my club, and the purchase of my first multicade. That took...forever. Anyway, here's the awesome stuff I've got cooked up at Wilcox Arcade!

Arcade and Retro Gaming Club

Sometime in the beginning of February, an awesome idea hit me. Arcade games are my life, right? Surely, there are other likeminded people out there who would come after school to play these kinds of...
