Tipsy Raccoons Now Titled Retro Raccoons and Published by Incredible Technologies

April 10, 2019

While it seemed independent developer Glitchbit’s Tipsy Raccoons arcade game had been on the market for quite some time now, recent news reveals that its full release is still on the way. Dubbed the “world’s first drinkcade,” this four-player minigame compilation will now go by the more family-friendly moniker “Retro Raccoons”.

The name change, likely meant to broaden appeal to non-bar clients, accompanies some other interesting news. The game will now be published by Incredible Technologies, a company known for its dominance of the bar market with titles such as Golden Tee Golf and Silver Strike Bowling. Retro Raccoons will reportedly this month.

Retro Raccoons’s claim to fame is its innovative credits system, having players insert their drinks into the cupholders to start the game. The game features “dozens” of minigames and trivia questions for players to compete through, with losers taking a sip of their beverages after each round. (A cash mode is available for more “traditional” arcade venues.)

Here’s Arcade Heroes’ coverage of the the latest version at Amusement Expo 2019, which provides a much more in-depth look at the gameplay. Adam Wray (owner of Glitchbit) does a nice job explaining some of the features, too.

And below is the official trailer. For some reason, Glitchbit has deleted and reuploaded this same promotional video two or three times now. (At least this time the existing footage boasts the new branding.)

For interested operators, Retro Raccoons is not available through IT but rather directly through Glitchbit. From what I’ve heard, all you have to do is send them an inquiry and they’ll get back to you as soon as possible. It seems that the few cabinets released prior to this publishing deal were more so a “market test” than a full release.

I have to wonder if this change is a sort of “Tapper vs. Root Beer Tapper” deal, meant to make the product more “family-friendly”. Either way, Retro Raccoons still looks like a super promising indie arcade experience. If you enjoy drinking games and shoulder-to-shoulder multiplayer, this might be a title to look out for in the future.

I know I’d enjoying seeing Retro Raccoons at one of my local game venues, and I’d love to pick it up for my route in the future. Until then—which may very well be years from now—I guess I’ll just keep y’all posted on the news. See ya ‘round!
