Cruis’n Blast Receives Update With Replacement Cars and New Pricing Setting

Raw Thrills’ Cruis’n Blast received an update in February replacing five of the 16 vehicles with different models and implementing a “bonus pricing” option.

According to Brandon Cook of Raw Thrills, the new cars came from a need to remove the Lamborghinis due to a lapse in the license. In the previous vehicles’ stead are the following additions:

  • 1959 Corvette

  • 1963 Corvette Stingray

  • 1959 Cadillac Eldorado

  • 2019 Chevy Camaro ZL1

  • 2019 Nissan 370Z

“The upgrade will really be for new games only,” Cook said. He cautioned operators from installing the update on existing games, as players would lose access to the Lamborghinis and any upgrades made to them.

I, as someone who knows next to nothing about cars, have no real reason to complain about the replacement vehicles. Sure, it sucks that the Lambos are gone, but I that’s sometimes what happens when a manufacturer is still selling a game full of real-life cars nearly four years after its release.

Bonus pricing, Cook explained, allows the operator the option to grant free, additional credits when a certain amount of money is inserted (e.g. $1.00 for one plays, $2.00 for three plays).

I appreciate that Raw Thrills has added this setting. The bonus pricing monetization tactic has been a staple of pinball for decades now—and it used to be somewhat common in early video games—so we’re definitely not losing anything with this pricing model.

Unfortunately, there has been no announcement of additional tracks being added to the title any time soon, even though players have been clamoring for more content practically since day one.

Because nothing in this update salvages what I consider a stripped-down Cruis’n experience, I can’t say this is the biggest news in the world, but I figured the added features were worthy of note.
