American Pinball’s Hot Wheels Gets a Teaser Trailer

American Pinball released a teaser trailer on June 16 for upcoming release Hot Wheels, offering a brief glimpse at the gameplay interspersed with footage from the Hot Wheels City YouTube series.

“American Pinball is proud to present the first officially licensed Hot Wheels pinball machine. The exciting and fast-paced world of Hot Wheels comes to life under glass, featuring a dazzling array of gameplay objectives that will keep players of all ages racing back to play again and again,” said the manufacturer.

The trailer highlights many of the playfield features, which include six balls, two ramps, four flashers, three “Redline Tire Pop” bumpers, two drop targets, two spinners, five Hot Wheels vehicles, and much more, according to American Pinball.

Gameplay elements include five multiball modes, R-P-M targets for increased scoring, B-A-T-T-L-E targets and lit saucer to “battle creatures,” car targets for collecting cars and filling a collector case, racing to capture the checkered flag, “track-building,” and other unique challeneges.

The cabinet boasts such enhancements as direct digital print backglass, a 15.6-inch full-color LCD with 1366x768 resolution, four stereo speakers and one 8-inch subwoofer, multiple custom music tracks “paced to gameplay,” and “powder-coated cabinet armor.” The machine will measure at 75"H x 29"W x 55"D and 275 lbs. unboxed.

In his article on Arcade Heroes, writer and arcade operator Adam Pratt noted that Hot Wheels units are now in production and available for purchase, following a brief hiatus after the game’s Amusement Expo 2020 debut. He also shared his previous experience playing the pin.

“I found it very easy to approach and enjoy, with satisfying ramp shots and fun multiballs,” Pratt said. “I suppose that some will not be happy since they don’t have the solid orange tracks, but if you have ramps that block the view of parts of the table, then it would anger more people than how it is.”

I was a huge fan of the Hot Wheels IP as a child, collecting as many cars as I could and playing Stunt Track Challenge on the PlayStation 2. For that reason alone, I’ll gladly indulge in the brand’s silver ball adaptation in an attempt to reclaim my long-lost adoration. What can I say? I guess I’m a sucker for this stuff.

American Pinball is a boutique pinball manufacturer based in the Chicago metropolitan area. The company is best known for its previous work on Oktoberfest and Houdini.
