The indie arcade game Galactic Battleground is currently en route to western Kentucky, brought to you by Wilcox Arcade.
On Friday, May 16th, that aforementioned four-player cabinet shipped from its home base in Minnesota, where it had been developed by Slackerz Inc.
While not technically a brand-new release – initially dropping in 2018 – the arrival of Galactic Battleground at Basement Bar Collectibles in Benton will mark the first time the title has ever touched down in Kentucky.
This particular unit also comes from an earlier wave of production, meaning the marquee is unique compared to any unit one could purchase right now.
Galactic Battleground pits players against each other almost like competitive Galaga, made modern with power-ups and shields. This can take the form of one-on-one or team-based battles, though the tertiary mode “Warzone” offers other ways to win. Even a loner can get mileage out of the single-player experience.
How I acquired this machine is a bit abnormal: Joe Wagner, a member of the Galactic Battleground team, was selling it in used condition after it had been retired from public use. If locals like it, I’d love to buy Galactic Battleground truly fresh from the factory.
What really matters, though, is the game will be totally new to everyone here in western Kentucky. No, I’m not exaggerating: This will be the only Galactic Battleground in the entire commonwealth. Plus, it will be the only one in the world not set to freeplay.
Speaking of which, my cabinet will only accept cashless payments at first (i.e., debit and credit cards, as well as mobile wallets). The coin door I ordered from Suzo-Happ won’t ship until October, at which point you’ll be able to use quarters, too.
Having Galactic Battleground in my arsenal feels surprisingly satisfying — not because it’s one of my all-time favorites like Skycurser but simply because I enjoy supporting Slackerz Inc. Through his Indie Arcade Wave social media pages, Joe Wagner has done a ton of leg work to ensure my personal access to the finest indie releases.
Plus, it was about time I put something new at Basement Bar Collectibles. Owner James Dismore is flush with square footage for me to fill with arcade games, a task as daunting as it is tantalizing. (Good thing Skycurser is coming soon, too.)
I hope to see you at the Galactic Battleground launch event, the date of which I will soon determine. In the meantime, follow me on Facebook for regular updates.
Hi everyone, while touring Jaipur’s pink streets, someone recommended aviator dafabet for its straightforward betting interface. The smooth odds display reminded me of the intricate Hawa Mahal latticework. I placed a few low-risk bets, stumbled at first, then struck a perfect exit on a high multiplier. The payout not only covered my traditional lassi but also paid for a surprise gift of bandhani scarves for my sisters. It was a regal win fit for royalty.
