Arcadeaholics Uploads a New Cosmotrons Trailer
Before I begin, I'd like to give a big shout-out to YouTube notifications. Otherwise, I wouldn't have seen this top-notch trailer. This morning, Arcadeaholics uploaded a new trailer for the upcoming release of the Cosmotrons arcade game. I've always appreciated Arcadeaholics's promotional materials, because they're always fairly professional-looking. Today's trailer in particular looked quite good. How about we take a look good look at it?
I do appreciate how they bother to explain the premise of the game. That's one problem some indie trailers have, but we don't seem to have that problem here. (Though I must admit that the line "You choose the spaceship setup of your choice" kind of amused me. I don't mean to sound hostile; I just pick up on little things like that.) One thing I would have appreciated was more raw gameplay footage, but other than that, I think it was pretty darn good. Arcadeaholics did an excellent job of making the game look exciting by splicing in shots of people actually playing the game. They're definitely going for the social, local multiplayer angle here. For that, I commend them. If you'd like to know more about the game yourself, here's some gameplay footage and an article where I discuss it.
At the end of trailer, we see the first four arcades that Cosmotrons will be in. There's The Garcade in Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin; the Analogue Arcade Bar in Davenport, Iowa; the Hyperspace Arcade in Lakewood, Colorado; and Geeks Mania Arcade in Madison, Wisconsin. There's also a link to the site where operators can order Cosmotrons for their own arcades. It's good to see that Arcadeaholics is striking a solid balance between advertising to the players and advertising to operators. That's one area indie arcade games have always succeeded in. The only real problem I have with this bit is that we still don't have a solid release date. I like that they're promoting the game, but I really want to know when I'll get to play. Maybe that info will come soon.
The trailer closes with two interesting lines. The first one: "Together we can grow the arcade scene." I guess to most people, yes, arcades aren't what they used to be. Let's grow it, kiddos. And then there's the second line: "This isn't your daddy's arcade game."
Dang. That's some comedy right there.
But yeah, that's about it. I'm still not very used to the British voice overs, but I'll survive. Make sure to play Cosmotrons when it drops. Like the woman said, "Together we can grow the arcade scene!" And like the beautiful Sergeant Mike Taylor said: "Now, if you'll excuse me, I have a war—no, an industry—to save."
Keep it real, you sweaty arcade-lovin' nerds. Here's a link to the official Cosmotrons site and a link to the official Cosmotrons Facebook page. And yes, I did just publish two articles in one day. I beat Arcade Heroes to the proverbial punch. Throw me a bone, why don't you.
Why do you all put up with me?
