Galactic Battleground Landing Soon in Benton, Kentucky

Galactic Battleground is soon to be the second brand-new indie game headed to Wilcox Arcade in western Kentucky this year.
That’s right: Switch ‘N’ Shoot won’t be my only major acquisition in 2025. With that one going to Know-a-Guy in Murray, I had felt the urge to fill another spot at Basement Bar Collectibles in Benton. Galactic Battleground just so happened to suit my needs.
The decision was a bit more up to chance than you may have expected. Joe Wagner – a member of the Galactic Battleground team who sells games from several other companies under the Indie Arcade Wave banner – made notice of a used unit for sale via that aforementioned outlet. Let’s just say I pounced upon the opportunity.
For those not in the know, Galactic Battleground is essentially four-player, competitive Galaga. It’s meant to look like an old-school shoot-em-up, only you’re gunning down each other. There is a single-player mode on offer if you’re lacking in pals, though.
Galactic Battleground seemed to be a perfect candidate for Basement Bar Collectibles. Already a venue known for group play of popular card games, I surmised an arcade game tailored to group play would be similarly apt. Besides, people tend like multiplayer no matter where you go.
I’m nothing if not judicial, so Galactic Battleground will also get the launch party treatment. If you’ll recall, I offered one-inch Wilcox Arcade pins to the first 25 patrons who played Switch ‘N’ Shoot during its launch day, as well as a Wilcox Arcade trucker hat to the first player who cleared 300 points.
To up the ante, the pins are coming back – but there will be three major prizes this time around. The first player to win a multiplayer match will receive a Wilcox Arcade trucker hat; the second a miniature Dance Dance Revolution model; and the third a miniature Galaga model. These are high-value items guaranteed to those who have what it takes.
(Just in case it wasn’t clear, because I don’t want there to be any confusion later, it’s only one prize per person. Hey, I can’t help but practice due diligence.)
Galactic Battleground is darn good game, something I verified for myself at Midwest Gaming Classic in 2023. I’m as happy as a lark to be the one guy gutsy enough to give it to the fine folks of western Kentucky. Once again, this a title you can’t find anywhere else in the commonwealth.
To keep up with when the cabinet is coming, either check back at the Wilcox Arcade blog or follow me on Facebook. I mean…I’ll talk about it on every social media channel, but Meta seems to deliver me the most locals. That’s the only reason I fool with that platform.
Thank you to everyone who has supported me so far on my quest to take over western Kentucky. This is shaping up to be my best year yet.
