If you haven't noticed by the slowness of my social media pages, I've been very busy lately. School, being close to end of the end of the year, is starting to become much more demanding. And on top of that, it's becoming increasingly difficult to single-mindedly focus on arcade games. Like, my brain literally can't handle it anymore. So for these aforementioned reasons, posts may be a little thin until after I get out of school, and I may take an extended hiatus from social media in general. Luc...

Last week, Arcade Heroes reported that a new indie game appeared at Midwest Gaming Classic: Cosmotrons. Since I’m always a big fan of indie arcade games, I figured that I’d give my thoughts on it. As of right now, Cosmotrons is not getting a full arcade release; in fact, the machine is more of a promotional piece for the Steam, PS4, and Xbox One releases. However, I want to look at this game from an arcade standpoint and look at how it might do if it received a full arcade release.

As many of you all know by now, Skycurser preorders opened up last Monday, April 3rd. The rapid success of Griffin Aerotech and the Skycurser project in my opinion is a fantastic thing to behold, and I hope to see more indie developers succeed in the future. And though I could leave it at this and do some simple overview of the game, I believe this topic requires a discussion more in-depth than I have ever before attempted. Let’s hope I can do it, am I right?

            The very recent success o...

If you’ve been following my website, you probably caught an article from March 6th called “My Favorite Classic Arcade Games.” As the title explicitly states, this was a list of, well, my favorite classic arcade games. Though this is a fine and dandy list in and of itself, my 60-in-1 Multicade brought to my attention many new titles that I now really enjoy. As such (after addressing how awesome Demolish Fist was, of course), I felt the need to post about it! You’ll recognize many of these titles...

Over the weekend, my family went to the Lake Barkley State Resort Park. Though most people look forward to, say, the lake or forestry, I was particularly excited about one thing: the game room. In the lodge (the restaurant area), they have a pretty nice game room. I remembered Area 51 and Tekken from the previous visits, and I was looking forward to playing through either one of those games. When I got there, however, I was greeted by a pleasant upgrade to the game selection. The working games i...

To anyone who reads my blog or follows my social media accounts, it is a well-known fact that I’m a sweaty nerd who loves arcade games more than anything in the world. As such, I’ve spent the past few months of my life saving up for my first arcade game. And you know what happened?

            I finally got it.

However, there’s a bit more of a story to this purchase, as the search for my first game was an adventurous one....

On Saturday, I went to Dave and Buster’s for the third time in my life. The game floor truly is a sight to behold. Sure, it’s no Galloping Ghost, but it was quite the rush to see nearly every new game from the past 5 or so years all in one place in their full, unadulterated glory. One game, however, stood out from the rest. No, it wasn’t Star Wars Battle Pod. As wicked as that was, it didn’t quite leave the impact of another Bandai Namco game I have long been waiting to play: Time Crisis 5.

If you know me, you know I’m a strong supporter of the modern arcade industry. It still exists, it’s still awesome, and there are plenty of new games to enjoy each year. There is one problem, however: New arcade games have become more and more casual as time goes on, and the variety of games has taken a huge hit because of it. Unfortunately, kids just want racing games and rail shooters these days! And as much as I love supporting each and every one of these new games (because they are still top...

This week has been incredible for me, with so much wonderful news in the arcade industry (well, maybe not that much), the beginning of my club, and the purchase of my first multicade. That took...forever. Anyway, here's the awesome stuff I've got cooked up at Wilcox Arcade!

Arcade and Retro Gaming Club

Sometime in the beginning of February, an awesome idea hit me. Arcade games are my life, right? Surely, there are other likeminded people out there who would come after school to play these kinds of...

Arcade Heroes covered JAEPO 2017 a few weeks ago, and we got to see a lot of really cool games. Unfortunately, this event is something that I would never be able to go to, given that it’s all the way over in Japan (naturally). However, since I know what’s coming out and I’ve read and seen quite a bit about these games, I’m going to give my impressions of this year’s JAEPO. Also, my apologies for being so late to the punch with this news commentary. I just really like posting on Mondays, ya know?

The arcade scene has been fairly abuzz lately, and there’s a sizable list of games that are taking my hype to its absolute limit. So, in true Wilcox Arcade fashion, I took the liberty of writing a blog post about it. Anyway, let’s get on with the list!

Brief Note: Q1 2017 refers to when I made the list, not when the games will be released.

Developer: Raw Thrills

Publisher: Raw Thrills

Release Date: December 2016

Developer: Play Mechanix

Publisher: Raw Thrills

Release Date: 2010

Alright, let's look at the game that redefined the rail shooter genre!

Gameplay

Let me tell you one thing and one thing only (disregard the other 1,200 or so words in this entry): This game is absolutely fantastic. Just when you think rail shooters couldn’t do anything more with themselves, Play Mechanix shows up and drops a smash hit. You’re going to encounter an insane amount of enemies onscreen at any given moment, so the game give...
